gmapractice

On August 25, 2024, I decided to start a journey of developing consistency in my musical, physical, and personal life. Over the years, I have been inspired over the years by musicians, athletes, and scholars developing different ways of tracking their progress, and building their strength mentally and physically.

My format is quite simple: practice violin or music in some way each day (recording a clip of that practice), move my body in a way that benefits me each day (recording it on Strava or independently), take a photo of myself each day (share that on a grid), and write/reflect on those practices each day (as captions to the post).

I didn’t start with a goal of how many days to reach in my mind, but made small milestones — 30 days, 50, 100, 365, etc. I have maintained this consistency for over a year now, and have decided I am working towards the goal of 1,000 days of consistency. It has already changed my life dramatically, shifting the way I think about discipline, habits, and routines.

This process has been quite vulnerable, straying away from my long-standing idea of what “perfection” looks like as a musician and athlete. Being transparent with both the video clips I share, as well as my reflections/explanations of each day has been a crucial part of my own way of being as “real” as I can on a social media platform. This account started as an accountability tracker for myself, but I am grateful for the support I have received along the way from family and friends. Hope you enjoy this window into my daily life!
