let's shape your violin journey, together! ~

Booking a violin lesson with me is designed to accommodate your preferences and schedule! I am determined to provide the best learning experience for your needs.

PHILOSOPHY:
My teaching approach prioritizes the development of both technical skills and musicality as a core to being a well-rounded musician. I see studies/etudes that target specific techniques as a crucial part of overall understanding the repertoire being studied from lesson-to-lesson. I encourage students to be self-aware in their playing, guided to listen critically to their own sound and recognize how this skill is eventually applicable in chamber and orchestral playing. I also believe that is is critical to learn how to practice and how to efficiently use your time in between lessons. By focusing on proper set-up, healthy physical + practice habits, and solid technique, I aim to create a nurturing learning atmosphere where students can thrive and learn to enjoy playing + performing — in the practice room and on stage.

HOW TO BOOK:
Please fill out the form linked here to inquire about starting lessons with me — provide any relevant details about your experience level and goals for your musical journey in order to schedule an introductory meeting! During the introductory meeting, we will discuss your background in violin and music, general lesson availability, and pricing. You are also welcome to email me at gracemalexander@gmail.com or text me at +1 310-701-8343 to inquire/schedule.

PRICING:
I offer lessons on a sliding scale pricing model, and I am committed to providing music learning opportunities for people of all financial backgrounds. My soft rates are $30 (USD) / $40 (CAD) for 30 minutes, and $60 (USD) / $85 (CAD) for 60 minutes of teaching. Please do not hesitate to reach out if this is not possible financially for you — we will make something work!

LESSON FORMAT
I offer lessons in-person in the Vancouver, BC Canada and Northwest Washington area, as well as on Zoom/Google Meet for students around the U.S. and Canada. Once we have our first official lesson after our introductory meeting, we will create a weekly “lesson plan” document with objectives and notes about each lesson. This document will be collaborative, with notes from myself about the lessons, and notes from your own practice/progress from week-to-week.
